MYTH: "The photos on your website are fake or photoshopped because my plant's glow is very faint, or it didn't glow at all when I looked at it."
FACT:
False! Our photos show real Firefly™ Petunias, and every plant is checked in darkness before it leaves our greenhouses to make sure its light is active and healthy. The difference you're noticing comes down to how cameras and human eyes see light.
How cameras see the glow
Professional photos use long-exposure settings that gather light over several seconds. That builds up a brighter image on screen than your eyes see in a single moment.
How your eyes see the glow
In person, the glow is soft and gentle, similar to moonlight. To see it, give your eyes 5 to 10 minutes in complete darkness. Light from phones, streetlights, or digital clocks will make it much harder to see. Look closely at fresh buds, new blooms, and young leaves, where the glow is brightest.
A healthy plant equals a healthy glow
The glow is powered by the plant's own metabolism, so stress from too little light, too much or too little water, heat, or cold drafts can cause it to dim. Good care keeps the light at its best. See our Care Instructions for details.
Living plants, living light
Because these are living plants, not manufactured toys, biology can occasionally surprise us. Very rarely, a healthy plant may have a single branch that stops glowing, or the whole plant may lose its glow a couple of months in, even with no change in care. These rare cases are a natural part of working with living light.
Still not seeing a glow?
We stand behind our plants.
